Constantly living in fear isn’t healthy, but there is a reason why God implanted the emotion of fear within us. Being fearful can keep us from doing foolish things, like jumping off of a roof or climbing in a pen with a wild lion. Having an awe-inspired fear of the Lord also leads us to make good decisions. He provides the instruction we need in His Book, and He also warns of the pitfalls of not following His guidance. As a good and perfect Father, He never withholds His love from us, but He also uses discipline to mold and guide us. Recognizing His power and respecting it helps us choose actions and attitudes that will result in positive consequences. And that is where wisdom takes root.
