Speak truth

You can’t go to a restaurant, a store, or even on social media these days without being exposed to people’s opinions about the upcoming election and the candidates for America’s next president. I’ve been saddened by the tone of some of the exchanges. Before a Christian speaks (or writes), he should consider whether his words are heaven sent. Are they pure? Do they promote peace rather than division? Are we being considerate? Do we offer mercy to those who disagree? Do the things we say bear good fruit? Are our statements laden with selfish partiality or do they consider both sides of the issue? God speaks truth and He does so with love as the underlying motivation. As Christians, we should strive to follow His example. Things are bound to become even more heated as the weeks progress. Can we pray for God’s direction and then use our words wisely to point others to Him?
