I have a timid kitty named Clyde. He is afraid of everything: strangers, loud noises, a shoe left in the middle of the floor that wasn’t there an hour ago… I’ve tried so hard to be gentle with him, to assure him that he’s safe here in our house, but he remains skittish and on alert. My heart aches when I watch him, wishing so much he could relax and feel at ease. I wonder if this is how God feels when we live our lives in fear and uncertainty, constantly watching for the next “attack” rather than trusting Him to take care of us. We can say “I have faith in God,” but unless we put that faith into action—unless we exhibit trust—it’s only words. Lord, take my fears and help me rest in Your strength. Let my heartfelt song always be “great is Thy faithfulness.”
