This is probably one of the most oft-quoted scriptures in the Bible, and more often than not it’s probably quoted out of true context. You see, this strength references a constant infusion of strength to the believer through relation with and dependence upon Christ. Power from God comes from within the will of God. Paul had learned that even the churning waters, he could depend on GOD’s power to sustain him when he was in the will of God. This can be a good measuring stick for us: if we feel weak and discontent, ask ourselves if we are truly seeking God’s will or if we’re seeking our own will. Strength comes from reliance on Christ through relationship with Him.
