When I was a kid, John Wayne was THE quintessential move star; today’s kids probably don’t know who he is. Our physical bodies come to the end of life. We return to dust, and we become a name on a tombstone. Only a few historical figures’ names are remembered through the ages. We just don’t have “staying power” in this world. That is, when we’re speaking of our physical presence. Our soul—the part of us that truly makes us who we are, the part that contains our moral center—does last forever. When our soul is committed to God and His purposes, then we can rest assured we are not forgotten. With God, we make lasting, eternal impressions on this world. They might not remember our names, but they’ll remember who we served, and that’s the best legacy any of us can leave behind.
