When I was a kid, I always read the comics in the newspaper. I especially liked Peanuts by Charles Schultz. In one cartoon strip, Snoopy was sitting on a curb in the snow, shivering and miserable. Linus and Charlie Brown approached, patted him on the head, and said, “Be of good cheer.” Then they moved on, leaving him still shivering and miserable. Sadly, people take this approach too often. We use the right words, but we don’t follow it up with actions that SHOW that we really care. It isn’t enough to say we have faith; there need to be actions that validate our claim. If you’ll forgive the use of an old cliche, actions speak louder than words. I’m so glad God didn’t simply say “I love you” and leave it at, or Jesus might never have gone to that cross.
