It can be very easy to look at others and make excuses for our own behavior—“He does it and gets by with it, so why can’t I?”; “So I was ten minutes late to work today—so-and-so is never on time”; or the childhood classic, “He started it!” The thing is, we can’t use others’ actions as a measuring stick for our behavior. We as believers have a higher calling. One day all of us will be held accountable for the words we said, the attitude we exhibited, and the deeds we performed. Rather than looking around and judging others, we would be wise to examine ourselves and make sure we’re honoring God with our lives.
