Happy Independence Day

Are you sporting your red, white, and blue and popping firecrackers today? Happy Independence Day! The founding fathers who planned the laws intended to guide this new country into the next centuries had lived under tyranny and limited opportunities. They wanted MORE for America’s citizens. So they claimed it as a land of freedoms–quoting, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These men openly acknowledged a Creator, and they believed America should be a land where “in God we trust.”

America has changed since that day in 1776 when 56 delegates to the Continental Congress closed themselves in a hot, stuffy room and drafted the Declaration of Independence from Britain. Today unborn babies are regularly denied the chance at life; religious liberties are trampled; some people pursue “happiness” at the expense of many others; references to God (on our coinage, in our schools, in our cities) are systematically eradicated. I ache when I consider the Godless America my grandchildren will inherit if we don’t turn this tide.

Christians, there is an answer: PRAYER. As we celebrate our nation’s independence, thank God for the freedom we experience through Christ’s sacrifice. Ask God to restore our country to one that recognizes and honors its Creator. Beg Him to move in the hearts of our leaders and TURN OUR NATION BACK TO HIM.

Quoting again from the document written so long ago: “…Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it…” It is time to alter the government’s determination to remove GOD from our country.
