Have you ever known anybody who refused to listen to reason and ran headlong into foolishness? I’m sure we all have. Maybe we’ve even been the foolish one from time to time. *ahem* A lot of foolish mistakes could be avoided if we learned the basic principle of “fear of the Lord.” Not a quaking kind of fear (although there’s a time for that, too), but the kind that results in reverence and respect. We generally try to please those we hold in esteem. When we determine to please the Lord with our lives, we stop and think before we act or speak. Every instruction we need is found in His Word—we only have to access it and heed it. The one who follows God’s instruction and practices restraint is wise, indeed.
