Thinking again about Grandgirl’s desire to offer a little comfort to homeless individuals, I’m sure she would respond the same way the righteous did to Jesus’ commendations. But the truth is when we serve the less fortunate—when we give without expecting anything in return—it’s the same as serving our Savior. If we have the love of God in our hearts, we’ll also have a natural inclination to share it with others both in word and in tangible acts. I love this quote by Herschel Hobbs: “Place a mouse before a cat and one sees what a cat is; place a person in need before a true child of God and one sees what a child of God is.” Obviously we need to use discernment in serving others, but isn’t it better to give when it’s not needed than not give when it is?
