I read somewhere that to purify silver it must experience extremely high temperatures for a long period of time. A silversmith was asked how he knew when the silver had been purified, and he replied, “When I can see my reflection in it.” This is such a powerful metaphor of God’s refining process in our lives. We will encounter “fires” in life, but if we allow those experiences to deepen our trust in Him and use it as an opportunity to show others where we find our strength, then we reflect Him. Remembering the silversmith’s comment helps change my attitude about difficult times. Shine, Christian, shine!
